"Welch
Village Ski and Mountain Bike Area"

Welch Village shown above is a great place
to ride if you are ever in the Redwing area. The area is
located about 30 miles South of the Twin Cities and 10 miles
from Redwing, Minnesota. Though it is a small area it offers
some classic riding.
|
| Welch Village has hosted the NORBA National
Championship Series the last two years and the organizers
have done an absolutely wonderful job with this event.
This area offers some great riding! The Welch Village
trails are very fast, hard-packed, and sticky-sometimes
a little too sticky (when it rains the mud doubles the
weight of your bike). Though the climbs are not that
long, they are demanding and require power. The single-track
sections are technical, tight, and challenging. There
are some really fun drop-ins here which will challenge
any rider. Summer is the best time to ride here, the
winters are a little cold! |

Unfortunately,
in the summer months it rains sometimes and it gets
kinda muddy! This race was in 1997 and it was nice and
sunny for the first 45 minutes..... Then, the sky blackened,
the rain fell, and the riders suffered! It doubled the
times for each lap and people were dropping like flies.
Some of the riders were on the course for a whopping
4 hours and 45 minutes! If it would not have rained
these same riders would have finished in under 2.5 hours.
Races like this you never forget. According to some
locals there are plenty of trails in the area and a
little seeking will set you on course for some great
riding. Contact the local shop for other rides in this
area. |

Bring the road
bike when you come here because there is some great
road riding in this area. There is a paved bike trail
that connects several towns and eventually meets up
with the majestic Mississippi River. The terrain it
travels through is beautiful in the summer-lush green
everywhere. Since Redwing, MN sits on the banks of
the Mississippi River you know the road riding will
be fantastic. More pictures coming from the Redwing
area soon!!
