Mountain Bike Trails: Wilder, California

Wilder,
California is located south of Santa Cruz, and is a
really nice place to ride especially if you like beautiful
views of the Pacific Ocean. Leaving from the parking
lot at the bottom will take you up to the top of a ridge
that overlooks the ocean. This day was in the mid 70's
with a nice breeze-perfect for riding.

|
| After climbing
up and away from the ocean you can access some really
fun single-track that leads you into the redwoods. Dark
and fast is a good way to sum up this portion of the
ride. You quickly become engulfed by the foliage and
the track is primarily hardpacked (unless it has been
raining which is very common from November to March).
Amazingly, this terrain can dry out fairly rapidly so
if it has been dry for a few days you can bet that this
trail will be ready to ride. The trail is in really
good shape and the ferns and huge trees are magnificent
to roll through. |

Who says girls
aren't aggressive? After the single-track in the woods
you can catch some air on your way back to the car(above
picture). So, after cruising through the ferns, redwoods,
and poppy fields, Julie and Rona had nothing to show
for their efforts except for a big smile and a great
memory. On a day like today, that is all you need. |
